Mission

Sea Spray Garden Initiative: Cultivating Community and Wellness

We are the Sea Spray Garden Initiative: a dedicated group of experienced gardeners united by a shared vision. We are establishing a not-for-profit organization on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia focused on promoting home vegetable gardening, significantly enhancing local food security, and bolstering mental health and wellness across the full diversity of our community.

A key part of our mission is cultivating a strong and supportive volunteer network. Volunteer roles are diverse, ranging from teaching essential gardening skills to providing hands-on assistance for seniors and individuals with health challenges, ensuring they can remain active and thrive in their existing gardens.

Future phases of this initiative include the development of a large community food garden and a season-extending greenhouse. Through strategic partnerships with local food pantries and other meal delivery initiatives, we plan to provide a consistent supply of fresh, nutrient-rich food to community members in need.

Our greater aspiration is to develop specialized community programming, including therapeutic horticultural programs for people experiencing dementia, engaging youth initiatives, and dedicated gardening opportunities for the neurodivergent community.

Gardening is about much more than just food; it is a source of health, independence, connection, and true community wealth.

Come and get dirty with the Sea Spray Garden Initiative and help us grow a stronger, healthier Eastern Shore.
